Full of fun and noise, the Paramus Sunrise Rotary Club celebrated its 7th Installation Dinner at Mt. Fuji in Hillburn, NY. Past District Governor Bonnie Sirower did the honors of discharging the 2013-2014 officers and installing the 2014 - 2015 staff starting with President Janet Pomante. Although she could hardly be heard over the cacophony generated by other diners and the showmen chefs, Bonnie did a great job of overcoming the noise and formally installing the officers before a group of 20 people. She managed to stand in between the two hibachi tables and installed the officers and directors at their places around the table. She also installed a new member, Ani Aghjayan.
Commendations to outgoing President Sophie Stone and incoming President Janet Pomante were offered by New Jersey Assemblyman Tim Eustace, Bergen County Executive Kathe Donovan, Bergen County Freeholder James J. Tedesco III and Paramus Mayor Rich LaBarbiera. Sophie Stone also received a Walter D. Head Award from her club. Bouquets of flowers were given to the three women.
In an aside, Paramus Sunrise Rotary Club member Joe D'Arco was given a miniature replica of a Harley Davidson motorcycle. Joe is a motorcycle aficionado and the Harley was something special to him. He plans on getting one after putting his children through college.
The new slate includes Janet Pomante, President, Bassam Mhich, President -elect, Sophie Stone, Past President , Hemish Kapedia, Vice President, Michael Molin, Treasurer, Mel Fabrikant, Parliamentarian, Bob Sherwood, Sergeant at Arms, Joe Castelano, Foundation Director, Tina Apprich, Secretary, Hemish Kapedia and Bob Doyle, Program Chairs, Mel Fabrikant, Membership Chair, Dennis Arslanian, Community Service and Fund Raising Chairs, Sophie Stone, Website Chair and International Projects, Ani Aghjayan, Youth Program Chair and Mukesh Malkan, Director at Large.
The menu offered by Mt. Fuji at the hibachi tables included a range of meat and vegetarian dishes. The showmanship was worth the wait for the meal to start, The chefs were deft in their handling of the steaks, chicken, shrimp, salmon, onions, rice and other foods. Everything was calibrated to satisfy the onlookers with the meal. The views and ambience were unequaled.
