Route 17 truck fire

On Monday, August 18, 2014, at 5:02 am, the Paramus Fire Department and Paramus Police Department responded to tractor- trailer fire located on Route 17 northbound between Powers Drive and Midland Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers observed a fire in the rear tire area of the 1999 Volvo tractor cab. The fire quickly spread to the trailer which was loaded with paper products. The fire also spread to a PSEG telephone pole located next to the truck.. It appears that the fire was caused by a mechanical failure in the trucks wheel. The tractor/ cab was owned by Alex Guadamur of Clifton, NJ and the trailer was owned by AA & EL Transport of Jersey City , NJ.
Route 17 north bound was shut down at 5:02 am. The left lane of the highway was reopened at approximately 7:47 am. The full highway was reopened at1:35 pm. These closures had a significant adverse effect on the morning commute. New Jersey State DOT assisted in the operations.
