Thursday 10/16 Cru Meets Brew
Monthly Interactive Culinary Seminars
The Montclair Food & Wine Festival (MFWF) will return in 2015 from June 8th-13th ... but food aficionados won't have to wait till then, because the Festival now operates all year 'round!
CRU MEETS BREW
The main event of the fall season will be at Highlawn Pavilion on Thursday, October 16th, when MFWF presents "Cru Meets Brew," a wine- and beer-paired collaborative dinner that combines the culinary talents of many special chefs.
To begin, there's Guest Chef Anthony Bucco (former Executive Chef, The Ryland Inn) along with Montclair chefs Christopher Ryan Arturo (Red Eye Café); Bryan Gregg (Escape); Adam Rose (Villalobos); and Julian Valencia (Ani Ramen House). Add to the mix the expertise of Sharon Sevrens (sommelier and proprietor, Amanti Vino) for a truly exciting night of virtuoso flavors and inspired pairings.
Cru Meets Brew proceeds will benefit Intensive Therapeutics and the newly created collaborative program MACHE: Montclair Academy for Culinary & Hospitality Excellence.
Formerly the Culinary Club at Montclair High School (MHS), MACHE is the renamed, re-imagined, multi-grade small learning community within MHS.
MACHE will offer advanced technical and specialized enrichment that successfully integrates vocation and academics to students pursuing careers in the culinary arts. Pam Wright, biology and food science teacher (and adviser to the Culinary Club), will direct.
Thus far, MFWF has dedicated $5,000 to the program, which included delivery of a new commercial, double-door refrigerator and an annual budget line of $1,500.
MACHE will feature monthly interactive seminars coordinated and arranged by Wright in cooperation with MFWF and presented by local chefs, restaurateurs, farmers, entrepreneurs, consultants, and other culinary world notables.
The interactive seminars will kick off this September with Cooking CSA Style, presented by Bryan Gregg and Anthony Bracco of Bracco Farms (Pine Island, NY). Seminars to follow include The Spice Clinic, with Mausam Indian Cuisine and Uncle Momo Lebanese Bistro; Savory Pies, with Samantha Codling of The Pie Store; and Principles of Pasta, presented by Lou Palma and Laura Schenone. 2015 seminars will include a ramen workshop led by Luck of Ani Ramen, a pickling session, and others to be announced.
MACHE students will be provided with opportunities to participate in a variety of career experiences through its Mentor Restaurant Network (in development).
