(Englewood, New Jersey- August 28, 2014) Bergen Performing Arts Center located at 30 North Van Brunt Street in Englewood, New Jersey presents artist Shin Young An, September 4-30th, 2014. The Exhibition “Passion For Truth and Beauty” is in residence at The Intermezzo Gallery on the 2nd floor of the bergenPAC. Reception takes place Wednesday, September 10th, 6:30 – 8:00PM. The gallery is open to the general public during box office hours Mon-Fri 11AM – 4PM Saturday 12PM to 4PM.
Shin Young An has developed an innovative series of paintings to convey her concerns for the world along with her enduring hope. She created her own art form of portrait by juxtaposing ordinary, routine tasks against a backdrop of current news articles that feature a variety of social, political, environmental issues and events. Her displayed artwork, created between 2009 and 2014, surprises the eye and engages the mind. She works with mixed media on prepared newspaper mounted on canvas.
Originally from South Korea, An has been awarded over 30 awards from national and international competitions and has exhibited worldwide, including in the USA, Italy, Spain, Japan, and South Korea. Her work is critically acclaimed and world renowned.
An’s vision of hope is given a voice in her words as well as her work. “I wish to dedicate my exhibition to the Sewol Ferry disaster victims, families, and loved ones,” said An, referring to the April 2014 capsizing of the South Korean ferry carrying 476 people, mostly secondary school students. The Exhibition is free and open to the public.
