Sponsored by the Foundation at Bergen Regional Medical Center

Almost 80 percent of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur at home and are witnessed by a family member. However, only 6.4 percent of sudden cardiac arrest victims survive because the vast majority of those witnessing the arrest are people who do not know how to perform CPR. If more people knew CPR, more lives could be saved. To help county residents, Bergen Regional Medical Center is hosting a free public CPR class for county residents on Wednesday, September 15 from 6:30 p.m – 7:30 pm. Pre-registration is required, and participants can call 201.225.7141 to sign up.
POLICE CHIEFS' MESSAGE

Welcome back everyone. Hope you all had a great summer vacation. It sure was "Hot" enough! As we all know, once school starts there will be children walking, bicycling, and busing to school. I urge students to be especially careful when crossing the streets. I have personally witnessed children talking to their friends or on a cell phone, and obviously not watching for traffic. Please do not talk on the phone while crossing streets, it is a very unsafe and dangerous practice. Parents and other drivers, please be aware that once the school year begins children will be present between 7:30 and 8:30 am, and 2:30 to 3:30 pm. Although we should always be alert, it is especially important during the school year. I wish everyone a happy and safe school year.

Chief Richard Zavinsky

Officials from the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office today announced that more than 700 firearms were taken in over the weekend as part of the county’s first-ever Gun Buy Back initiative, which allowed individuals to anonymously surrender their unwanted firearms for cash. “We’re very grateful this program was such a tremendous success,” Sheriff Leo P. McGuire said. “As a father and Bergen County resident, it gives me peace of mind to know we've done all we can to ensure the safety of our communities.
According to recent statistics*, non-surgical cosmetic procedures such as Botox® injections have increased 231% since 1997 and now account for more than 85% of all cosmetic procedures. Increasingly, dentists are putting their experience and expertise to work in the facial injectable market, using their in-depth knowledge of facial anatomy to introduce services that complement their existing work. At the forefront of this trend is Englewood Cliffs, NJ-based Dr. Bruce G. Freund, co-founder and CEO of the American Academy of Facial Cosmetics, an institution created specifically to educate and train healthcare professionals in facial injectable procedures.
