Social Security to Provide Helpful Health Care Information to Over 3 Million Disability Applicants Each Year

Michael J. Astrue, Commissioner of Social Security, today announced the agency is providing helpful health care information and website links to the more than three million individuals who apply each year for Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) disability benefits. The website links take disability applicants to two U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) websites – www.healthfinder.gov where they will find information and tools to help them better understand and cope with their conditions; and www.healthfinder.gov/rxdrug where they may be able to get help paying for prescription drugs read more

Awesome Wings When Gary Spivak mentioned that he wanted to open an eating establishment, he was admonished to have something different. After all, hotdogs, hamburgers and wings are common fare at eating establishments these days. Gary stated that his food would be different! Q: I don't have a clue about arranging furniture. We bought a condo that has a big window on one side of the main room and French doors on the other side.

Lewis & Clark Presentation at The Atrium
Author and Historian Peter Osborne recently presented to the residents of The Atrium a slide program of his trip following the maps of the Lewis & Clark Expedition of 1803-1806.

He also bought artifacts that would have been used on the trip such as buffalo skin and a hatchet. Peter also bought sweet nut bread, from a recipe of that time period, as a treat after the program. read more

Bergen Community College Men’s Basketball Wins First Game in National Tournament, Earn Final Four Berth


One down, two to go.


Despite some tense moments, the Bergen Community College men’s basketball team tipped-off the 2010 National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III Men’s Basketball Championship in Delhi, N.Y. with a 97-89 win over Mountain View College (of Dallas, T.X.). With the win, the Bulldogs ran their record to 33-0 and now advance to the tournament’s Final Four. Bergen will play Rochester Community & Technical College (of Rochester, M.N.) Friday, March 12 at 6 p.m. for the right to advance to the national championship game. The title game is Saturday, March 13 at 8 p.m read more

Elaine Winter Educates Paramus Sunrise Rotary about Alzheimer’s Disease

Sunrise Meeting 3-9-10 At the March 9th meeting of the Paramus Sunrise Rotary Club, Elaine M. Winter, Associate Director of the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater New Jersey Chapter, was the main speaker. She educated the members about this horrible disease that strikes someone every 70 seconds.

Before she spoke, President Mukesh Malkan went over some club business including the terrific time that those who attended the President’s Ball the previous Friday had encountered. Member Antonio Rosario’s wife Wendy was the designated driver and she received a vote of confidence for a safe trip. read more

Mayor and Council Meeting Tuesday 3-09-10

Mayor and Council Meeting 3-9-10 I apologize to our faithful readers for being so late in publishing this article. The meeting lasted until 11:30 PM and left me exhausted after a long long day and another one on Wednesday. Several people have already contacted me asking about the meeting.

The 7:45 PM scheduled meeting started about ½ hour late. The Work Session was considerate of the attendees by repairing to the Caucus Room for their closed session rather than displace the audience which had grown to be quite large. read more

Paramus Sunrise Rotary Helps Fight MS by Shopping at Fairway Market

The Fireside Chat Striking an innovative note, members of the Paramus Sunrise Rotary Club helped to support the National MS Society by shopping at Fairway Market on March 10th. Fairway Markets donated 10% of their sales to the Society to help support MS. The Rotarians did this by arranging to have a Fireside Chat meeting and to purchase their dinners at Fairway Market and then going over to Club President Mukesh Malkan’s home to dine. Of course they bought extras. read more
