The Rise And Fall Of The British Empire 1781 - 1997 by Piers Brendon

A non-reader of history would find this huge volume both interesting and in some cases humorous! Piers Brendon delves into the British Empire history affording the reader tremendous insight into the whys and wherefores! Although he compares himself to Edward Gibbon, another prolific historian and author of ‘The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire’, Brendon salutes Gibbon as the master. Think Of A Numb3r By John Verdon

Think of a number is John Verdon’s first entry into the field of writing novels. Hopefully he will continue to write.

Set in a rural area of upstate New York in the Catskills, it reflects the author’s move from the hubbub of New York City and the retirement of his protagonist, a retired New York City hero homicide detective. Like most novels, it takes a little bit of reading, but as the plot develops, the reader will find that it is difficult to put the book down. The author manages to carry the interest of the reader without resorting to tawdry methods. One wants to go on and to try to fathom the plot. Although it took this reader to the middle of the book to recognize the perp, Verdon does all he can to shake that conclusion. He also has an excellent command of vocabulary!

Ice Cold by Tess Gerritsen

I must confess that my personal feelings are chauvinistic when it comes to female authors. Ice Cold seems to break down that barrier. Her stars, Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles, are not only featured here in this novel, but rizzoli & isles can now be seen on TNT. Gerritsen uses her experience as a physician to interact with the plot. I suppose that living in Maine has given her an inside view of the cold. Read more

61 Hours - Lee Child’s Jack Reacher Novel

61 Hours: A Reacher Novel
Lee Child has been producing one novel a year with Jack Reacher as the protagonist. I believe I have read almost all of them. Like the others, this one was devoured in a minimum of time, a novel that is hard to put down. Child starts off with a staccato pace and continues it throughout the book. Unlike some books where there is a lull in action, Child continues his fast pace and holds the reader’s interest until the end. Read more
