NHPCO President Don Schumacher Voices Support for CMS Innovation Center’s Concurrent Care Pilot Project

Hospice Community applauds study of care model that may increase hospice access
National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization’s President and CEO J. Donald Schumacher released the following statement on today’s announcement from Secretary Sebelius of the Department of Health and Human Services regarding the Medicare Care Choices Model:
“On behalf of NHPCO and our country’s diverse hospice provider community, I would like to thank Secretary Sebelius and her team at the CMS Innovation Center (CMMI) for moving forward with the Medicare Care Choices Model - a project to test concurrent care for patients facing terminal illness.”

Paramus Sunrise Rotary Club Learns About Sierra Leone Solar and Genital Mutilation Projects

Sierra Leone Project Teaneck Rotary President Katharine Frost explained some of the problems that her club is attacking in Sierra Leone. A pet project of hers, her club has united with the Rotary Club of Freetown, Sierra Leone to help try and solve these situations. It started with the war that lasted from 1991 to the year 2002. It played a devastating role upon the infrastructure of Sierra Leone including, but not limited to: government buildings, electric power plants and many schools.

When the curtain opens and the lights strike the stage on April 6, the New York City Opera will be seen in the New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera’s new production of Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata. Last performed by the company in 2006, Verismo Opera will present this iconic opera with resplendent sets used by the New York City Opera for several decades to present this lavish production on Sunday, April 6, 3:00 p.m., at the Bergen Performing Arts Center (bergenPAC), 30 North Van Brunt Street, in Englewood, New Jersey.

Rep. Pascrell Hosts Major ACA Enrollment Event at Holy Name Medical Center

Certified Application Counselors on hand to help Korean Americans enroll in the Health Insurance Marketplace

With the March 31st Affordable Care Act (ACA) Health Insurance Marketplace enrollment deadline rapidly approaching, today U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09), a member of the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Health, held an ACA enrollment event at Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck. The event, co-sponsored by the Korean Medical Program at Holy Name and Enroll America's Get Covered America campaign, hosted more than 100 Korean Americans seeking assistance with enrolling in the Health Insurance Marketplace from one of the dozens of Certified Application Counselors on hand. Translators were also available to assist with enrollment.

Second Annual Paramus Weight Loss Challenge

Paramus Weight Loss Our Board of Health Director, Judy Migliaccio, arranged for the 2nd Annual Weight Loss Challenge sponsored by the Mayor's Wellness Campaign, The Valley Hospital and Gold's Gym of Paramus. Weekly weigh-ins will be held on specific days at Gold's Gym, 49 E. Midland Avenue or the Board of Health, 1 Jockish Square during the twelve week period. They urge you not only to weigh in, but to attend classes. Registration, required for each class, can be made by calling 201 291 6090. All classes are held at the Municipal Court/Council Chambers in the Borough Hall. Last year Paramus beat their weight loss goal of 500 pounds by over 100 pounds. This year, the 150 registrants hope to beat it by at least 500 pounds.

Englewood Hospital Partners with Local Agencies to Provide First Responder Training

(Englewood, NJ, March 18, 2014) – Local fire and police departments are brushing up on lifesaving skills, including delivering a baby in the middle of a street or safely removing a motorcycle helmet to manage an accident victim’s airway, with training provided by Englewood Hospital and Medical Center’s (EHMC) Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department.
Bergen County’s finest are renewing critical skills and techniques in the management of medical emergencies through a four-week comprehensive course that provides training in CPR, airway, trauma and emergency childbirth.
