What could be cooler for summer? Airy whites in breezy skirts, lightweight jackets, cropped pants, strappy sandals and handy tote bags. Just add a pair of dangling milky quartz earrings, a strand of pearls and you've got the perfect complements to a summer tan. But beware: White may be fashion's best friend this summer, but baring your underwear for all to see is not anyone's best look at any age.WEDGES AND FLIP-FLOPS
Wedges - not wedgies - are the hottest look in shoes this summer. And you can find them in all heights from low-heeled slides to taller ankle-strap sandals. Platform wedges are back in a big way. From rope heels to cork heels, try at least one pair of these trendy shoes before you have to slide back into those boots again. Then take another look at those summer must-haves, flip-flops. Now they're all grown up, embellished with lots of goodies from beads to baubles.
The better to protect those eyes from the sun's rays and to shield a late-night party gone bad. Plus, in these oversized aviators or "Jackie O" sunglasses, no one has to know you're snoozing on the beach instead of watching the waves and reading the latest best-seller. One note of caution: Buy the best pair of sunglasses you can afford and make sure you get maximum sun protection.
Now there are choices, choices, choices. If you're young and really want to show off those legs, there are cuffed shorts out there to roll up as high as you dare. If you're a little more modest, or don't feel like being quite so casual, then there are plenty of great-looking Bermuda shorts. The longer trouser shorts can be dressed up with more tailored blouses and jackets for working girls.
CHAIN LINK JEWELRY
Just when summer is heating up, the jewelry opens up to a round of circles and links in silver and gold necklaces, bracelets all layered for more effect. Don't be afraid to mix and match these new chains. Silver and gold wrapped together can give you a lot of versatile style.
LONG, LEAN TOPS
Cover up that midriff, girls. Pull on a longer, leaner tank top and stretch into summer without baring your stomach and soul. Or ease into a tunic top and wear it as a swimsuit coverup or over jeans and capris. These are also the perfect layering pieces for other T-shirts, polo tops and camisoles.
In the summer, you've just gotta carry a lot of stuff around. So pick up a new straw tote in colorful stripes or neutral raffia. You'll love having the extra room, and it can double as a beach bag. Take note: Make sure the straw bag is durable - spills in front of the poolside crowd are not chic.
GO FOR CROCHET
Another way to get breezy this summer. Put a little openness into your clothes with crocheted knit tops, cardigan sweaters and shrugs. Or get your hot weather dose of crochet by wearing skirts with the bohemian trim. Either way, you'll be much cooler and so cool, too.
