Thanksgiving at the Mayor and Council meeting

Council Meeting
Council Meeting
Mayor Tedesco stated that he had attended an interfaith prayer breakfast that morning, the first of what was hoped to be an annual occurrence. He quoted several of the religious leaders who attended. Henry Vander Plaat, whose family was instrumental in bringing this even about, charged each of the 200 attendees to bring five more people next year!

Councilman Rich LaBarbieri mentioned that the Peewee Football team had a record breaking 12 – 0 season. They were also commended by resident Tommy LoCicero who coaches older teams. When Tommy suggested that the team get special commendation, Mayor Tedesco replied that not only will they get Council recognition, but that on Thursday morning at the High School Thanksgiving Day football game they will also be singled out.

LaBarbieri demonstrated his sense of humor in his reports by concluding with the fact that Thanksgiving was one of the best celebrations in his book. It is not a holiday of toys and gifts, but one where we not only give thanks, but can relax, eat with the family and watch football games. Mayor Tedesco and the other council members echoed these thoughts.

The Mayor, in his report, thanked the volunteer organizations that helped to make this a safe Halloween and for the support from the Paramus Police department.

Other items mentioned were: the bonfire at Eastbrook Wednesday evening, long term care options for the Boro employees, the swimming pool being rehabilitated in 4 years, a year ahead of schedule, golf fees will not be increased for 2007 and the informal memorial service at George Washington Memorial Park the next day at 3 PM in commemoration of the 13 anniversary of the death of Police Officer Vincent M. Brock.

Mayor Tedesco ended the meeting with a rap of the gavel and a wish for a happy Thanksgiving for all of us.
