Presentations were the main order of business with State Farm Public Affairs Specialist John Baldino presenting the town with a check for $1,000.00 to be used for smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.Fire Company 4 represented by Chief Kevin Sheehan also donated money toward this worthy project. Mayor Tedesco announced that PSE & G would be promoting these detectors as well in the coming year. Fire Inspection Chief Jeff Levine and Fire Commissioner Rich LaBarbieri welcomed these donations for the safety of Paramus people.
With a little rank confusion, Marine Corporal Michael Harken was presented with a citation by the Mayor in recognition of his bravery in action. Corporal Harken had just been promoted from Lance Corporal and Council member elect Fred Hayo was able to set the hierarchy straight. Corporal Harken said that he did not deserve the award alone, that it was a joint effort among his fellow Marines. This modest soldier said that his partaking in saving 3 lives was ‘merely doing his job’.
Members of the Peewee Superbowl Football Champions and their coaches were present and awards given to them. Their trophies will be on display at Borough hall.
Mayor Tedesco gave thanks to the 400 employees and hundreds of volunteers who help make Paramus the wonderful town that it is.
