will be participating in Project Homeless Connect (PHC) at the Bergen County Community Action Partnership Drop-In Center in Hackensack.PHC is a successful homeless outreach program that began in San Francisco, California and
offers the community an opportunity to aid the homeless by providing needed services and support.
During this one-day, one-stop event, social service agencies will provide information on topics
such as social security, welfare, housing, mental health, and veterans’ services. Agencies such
as the Bergen County Department of Health, the County’s Board of Social Services, and Comprehensive Behavioral Healthcare, Inc. will have staff on hand to answer questions. Flu vaccinations will be offered to adults. Pregnant women must have a physician’s note. There will also be Aids testing. The Parisian Beauty Academy in Hackensack plans to offer haircuts at no charge. Donations of essential items such as gloves and socks will also be distributed to the homeless. Food will be provided throughout the day.
Approximately 100 cities across the United States follow the PHC model. This is the third year that New Jersey coordinates a statewide effort.
Donations of the following new items are needed:
Gloves Gently worn coats
Scarves Thermal underwear
Monetary contributions Gift cards in increments of $5.00 (local food
establishments such as McDonald’s)
Donations will be accepted through January 26 at the Bergen County Community Action
Partnership Drop-In Center located at 67 Orchard Street in Hackensack.
