Retired Sergeant Thomas Luyster, Jr., Retired Corporal Gene Iaconetti, and Retired Gunny Sergeant R.E. Walsh, initiated their Saddle River Division’s involvement in Toys for Tots at HUMC for its first time, but certainly not the last.
“We started by bringing toys to the town of Elizabeth, and once I saw the looks on the kids’ faces, I was hooked,” said Corporal Iaconetti. “I knew that if we did this, the bottom line was that a child is going to be happy.”
Westy Self-Storage in Upper Saddle River, led by director Carol Goldring, enabled the toy delivery by providing a truck to transport the toys, and boxes with which to collect them. “It’s so wonderful to work with these Marines and Toys for Tots to give toys to sick children around the holidays,” commented Ms. Goldring. “Obviously this can be a particularly difficult time for these kids and their families.”
“We used to sponsor Westy’s collection boxes, when the idea to bring the toys to the children’s hospital came up, and we told them we’d be happy to help. And we’re very happy to be here,” remarked Corporal Iaconetti.
The Saddle River retired Marines, Ms. Goldring, and Westy Self-Storage Center are hopeful to make this charitable visit an annual event at the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital at HUMC.
