Music & Arts Announces Winners Of National Garage Band Contest

Music & Arts, a national musical instrument retailer, recently announced the winners of its fourth annual Teen Garage Band contest. The contest was open to bands comprised of 13 to 19-year olds, with each group submitting up to three original songs for consideration. More than 66 entries were narrowed down to three final winners chosen by celebrity guest judge Bootsy Collins, best known for his work with the band Parliament-Funkadelic.
Grand prize winners, "The Ivy League" from New York, New York, won a garage band's dream package valued at $6,065, including guitars, amps, drum set, speakers and a mixer. The grand prize package included all of the following:

Yamaha Electric Guitar
Yamaha Electric Bass Guitar
Alvarez Acoustic Electric Guitar
Crate Guitar Amp
Crate Guitar Cabinet
Ampeg Bass Amp
Crate Acoustic Guitar Amp
Rogers Drum set with Paiste Cymbals
Two (2) Mackie/Tapco Powered Speakers
Mackie/Tapco 12 Channel Mixer
Members of "The Ivy League" include: Alex Beer, Dan Hockstein, Andrew Abramowitz and Ace Monroe. Their winning entry included the following original songs: "Out of this Town," "Hallelujah! It's the New Year," and "Irony (Without the Iron)."

The second place prize of a $500 Music & Arts gift certificate was awarded to "Forward Forward" from Fairfield, Connecticut. The third place winners, "The Semi Automatic Manuals" from Gilbert, Arizona won a $250 Music & Arts Gift Card.

The entries were judged based on their musicianship, originality, song composition and for the positive and fun messages present in the music. "I'm happy to see that the garage band tradition is still going strong in America," said Music & Arts President Ken O'Brien. "Music is a great way for teens to find their voice, and express themselves in a positive way. Music & Arts is proud to support these bands and their creative work."
