Judy Collin’s has been performing since the ripe young age of 13. She started with a focus on classical music, but it was contemporary music that eventually sparked her interest. Collins released her first album A Maid of Constant Sorrow in 1961. She is responsible for exposing many singer-songwriters to wider audience. Some of these artists include Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, and Randy Newman. The 1967 album Wildflowers was inducted in the Grammy Hall of Fame. She received a Grammy Award for her rendition of Stephen Sondheim’s “Send in the Clowns” in 1975.
Collins is the author of several books including an inspirational memoir called Sanity & Grace. She co-directed an Academy Awarded-nominated film about Antonia Brico, the first woman to conduct symphonies around the world and her first classical piano teacher. In 1999, Collins founded her own grassroots record label called Wildflowers.
Judy Collins has had a career that has lasted for half a century. Her unique blend of contemporary music and folksongs has made her world renowned. Starting performing at such a young age has helped make her the dynamic talented performer that she is today.
