After being closed for many months, Siam Ruby located in a little strip mall near to ShopRite in Rochelle Park reopened. Several people have tried to make a go of this little converted luncheonette at 184 West Passaic Street,, but have never succeeded in making it a success despite the authentic Thai dishes that have been offered. Noting a sign on the window that it was open, we decided to have lunch there. Every entre on the limited menu was $6.99 with soup and appetizers priced lower. The food is good; the customers are lacking!
It was with great surprise that our server was the original owner, Tammy, who has a heart of gold and a strong desire to please. She once donated several hundred dollars of food to a senior citizens home despite her business not being profitable at the time. While service is a bit erratic, the food is worthwhile to endure the delays. Tammy has remodeled the restaurant adding more tiled tables and booths. Food is served on a tray and in a plastic container that one just closes the separate plastic cover and takes home the unconsumed food.
Her entrees are: Chicken Satay, Gai Tod, Graw Pow, Green Curry, Masaman Curry, Red Curry, Pad Thai Noodles, Pad See Ew Noodles, Thai Fried Rice, Drunken Noodles, Drunken Fried Rice and Thai Salad with Fried Chicken Breast and Peanut Dressing. Don’t be surprised if an item has been sold out and you have to make another choice; it is part of the ambience of Siam Ruby.
One does not go to Siam Ruby for décor or excellent service, but for good food at a reasonable price. It is located at 184 West Passaic Street, Rochelle Park. If Tammy knows you, you can call ahead 201 880 8227 and she will have your meal prepared by the time you arrive. Hours are from 1130 AM to 6:00 PM Monday through Saturday.
