According to the American Diabetes Association, 25.8 million children and adults in the U.S. – 8.3 percent of the population - have diabetes. In addition, 1.9 million new cases of diabetes were diagnosed in people aged 20 years and older in 2010.
Bergen Community College’s Biology and Horticulture Department are sponsoring the Fourth Annual Diabetes Awareness Day on Thursday, December 1, 2011 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the Moses Family Meeting and Training Center on the College’s main campus in Paramus. The event is free and open to the public.
The event features discussions led by Ellen M. Greenberg, M.S., Lead Coordinator – Type 1 Diabetes Research Group, Naomi Berrie Diabetes Center/Columbia University; Mark Sherman, M.D., P.A., General/Vascular Surgeon, The Valley Hospital; and Jim Weissman, Vice President, Business Development, MannKind Corporation.
