The "NORAD Tracks Santa" app developed by Visionbox was downloaded over 1.4 million times and ranked #2 on the Apple App Store's "Top Downloaded Apps" list.
In 2011 Visionbox was a proud contributor to the NORAD Tracks Santa program. The program, which began after a misprinted ad in a local paper in 1955, has volunteers and NORAD staff answering queries on the location of Santa Claus as he circles the globe delivering presents on December 24.
To support the program, Visionbox developed a mobile app for both Apple and Android devices. The app has games, provides key information about NORAD and its mission, and allows users to track Santa's progress on December 24 using Google Maps.
"The NORAD Tracks Santa smartphone app added an additional layer of excitement and fun to this year's Santa-tracking, and we received many positive comments from Santa-trackers who were delighted to be able to track Santa everywhere!" said Marisa Novobilski, Strategic Outreach Specialist in the Public Affairs department of NORAD and USNORTHCOM.
Craig Meese, Visionbox's President, says the company is very excited about contributing to the NORAD Tracks Santa program. "It's such a great program, with so many top-notch contributors, that we were happy to participate. Creating a mobile app seemed like a natural next step and we were excited to bring our expertise to the project."
The app received overwhelmingly positive reviews and Visionbox has plans for many new features in 2012.
