Paramus Sunrise Rotary Celebrates Their Fourth Year Of Having Flowers At The Bandshell

Flower Boxes at Bendshell
In their charter year, the Paramus Sunrise Rotary Club donated three flowerboxes to the Paramus Bandshell behind the Library. This was done to enhance the Bandshell built some twenty-five years earlier by the Paramus Rotary Club and refurbished by the Paramus Cultural Council. It seems that the ground by the stage would be too damp to sustain plants. They have been a source of beauty to the ever popular stage shows that the Cultural Council has offered during the summer.

As in the past, after their regular Tuesday morning meeting, some of the club members visited the site to admire the plants donated, once again, by Westfield Garden State Plaza Shopping Center and installed by the Paramus Shade Tree and Parks Department. Among the members at the Bandshell were Senior General Manager of Westfield, Rotarian Deb Mattes and Honorary Member Mayor Rich LaBarbiera, President Gary Spivak and members Sophie Stone, Joe Castelano, Mukesh Malkan, Bob Sherwood and Tina Apprich.

Paramus Rotary President Kevin Behnke of Paramus Lumber Supply was asked to participate and to be honored for his selfless task of restoring the boxes after they had been emptied to make way for refurbishment of the Bandshell area this past year. Kevin rebuilt and modified the boxes per the specifications of Jay Sexton, Superintendent of the Paramus Shade Tree and Parks Department. It was at Jay's suggestion that the flower planting was delayed until warmer weather was assured.

At their regular meeting, President Gary adhered to the principle of bestowing the honor of lighting the Remembrance Candle , this time Past President Mukesh Malkan. Bob Sherwood, the last member to arrive, was given the dubious honor of blowing out the candle at the end of the meeting. The Remembrance Candle stays lit during the entire meeting to celebrate or remind the members of an important event.

Bloomingdale's Karine Abrahamyan and Sona Hambardzumyan were invited to speak and to thank Sona for her help in getting the models ready at the Fashion Show. Co-chair of the Fashion Show Mukesh Malkan invited the pretty duo to attend the club Greek International Dinner at St. John The Theologian in Tenafly on Thursday, May 31.

PRID (Past Director Rotary International) Ray Wells was invited to induct two new members, but unfortunately there was a change of plans. The club did celebrate Ray's birthday which took place the day before.
