Myanmar-Burma Life Described to the Paramus Sunrise Rotary Club

Meeting 07-10-12
The Reverend Dr. Samuel M. Stone spoke to the Paramus Sunrise Rotary Club about his recent trip to Myanmar, also known as Burma. Aided by a PowerPoint program, he described the customs and habitats. Native to Burma, he was able to describe the change in culture now that Myanmar has released its stringent rules. Along with the release of politician and Nobel Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi many restrictions have been lifted.

The trip gave Dr. Stone, a member of the Paramus Rotary Club and Pastor of Trinity Presbyterian Church, a chance to bring some Rotary dictionaries for the youngsters in school duplicating a project endorsed by many Rotary clubs in the United States. The local clubs give dictionaries to third grade students as part of their education process. He stated that books in Burma are scarce. Sophie, his wife and Sunrise club member, has actively been promoting a Books for Burma project. Towards this end, she has been in touch with libraries and storage/shipping companies.
