Bergen Regional Honoring Chang Pok Su's 105th Birthday

Mrs. Pok Su Chang's 105th Birthday
Resident of Bergen Regional Medical Center, Pok Su Chang was born in the city of Jeon Ju, Suk Ko Dong, South Korea. When she was 6 years old, her father died and when she was 40, her mom passed away. Chang married at the early age of 15 years old. After 5 years of marriage Chong Won, her husband died suddenly from an illness. She remarried Hong, Soon Nam and had 8 children from her two marriages. Chang was a house wife and customarily helped with the farm labor. Her second husband Soon Nam died at the age of 53 years old.

In 1978 at the age of 70 years old, Chang immigrated to Hawaii, where her eldest daughter lived with her husband. While getting her US naturalization citizenship from President Clinton, Chang lived with her daughter for 2 years and then moved into her own senior housing apartment at the age of 72. At the age of 94 years old, Chang came to live with her son in Palisades Park, New Jersey. She helped raise her grandchildren and enjoyed gardening in the back yard.

On August 17, 2010, Chang was admitted to Long Term Care at Bergen Regional Medical Center. She is still very alert and oriented, very independent. She is adamant to do things on her own. She is ambulatory with the assistance of a roll-walker. She continues to spend time in the dayroom throughout the week. She participates in many activities such as morning coffee socials, current events, group exercises, music programs, table top ball toss games, story book club and unit event special parties. She also still enjoys watching T.V. Chang still attends catholic mass services. Her family visits regularly.
Chang is 105 years old but because of an error on the Korean Census, the date of birth is registered as 1909.
