Text Kills and DriveReply to Showcase at FCC Distracted Driving Technology Showcase

Today, Iconosys, Inc.™, a leading developer of over 1000 family safety and lifestyle Smartphone apps (including the ever popular Trick or Tracker® and DriveReply® apps), is very pleased to announce that its CEO and co-founder, Wayne Irving II, will be speaking at the Federal Communications Commission’s Distracted Driving Technology Showcase in Washington, DC on April 19. Irving is also the founder of Text Kills®, a community outreach organization that since 2010 has traveled the country to spread awareness about the dangers and hazards of distracted driving and cyber-bullying.

This showcase event is an outgrowth of growing concern about the issue of distracted driving, and in particular, the now widespread practice of texting while driving. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that in 2010 driver distraction was the cause of 18 percent of all fatal crashes –with 3,092 people killed—and crashes resulting in an injury to more than 416,000 people. Additionally, the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute found that text messaging creates a crash risk 23 times worse than driving while not distracted. Other statistics relating solely to the practice of texting-while-driving, or TWD, are similarly alarming: 1) 11 teen deaths occur every day (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Fatality Facts; 2) 330,000 injuries per year (Harvard Center for Risk Analysis Study); and 3) 1,600,000 accidents per year (National Safety Council).

Because of his highly visible role in championing this public health and safety issue in his work with both Iconosys and Text Kills, Mr. Irving is widely seen as one of the foremost authorities on the subject of distracted driving, including TWD. Indeed, Irving’s company, Iconosys, is the developer of the well-known, popular DriveReply® app, which was one of the first technologies on the market specifically designed to combat the practice of TWD. Once installed on a user’s Smartphone, Drive Reply is automatically activated on that device when the vehicle reaches a certain speed and without any further direction or action from the phone user responds to incoming text messages, so that the user is free to focus on the important task at hand, safe driving.
According to Irving, while the use of technology can pose unintended and unanticipated problems, such as TWD, we can, and should, look to technology for solutions in addressing these issues.

“A big part of technology is convenience,” commented Irving. “We all want technologies that will make life easier for us, but at the same time, we also need to keep safety in the forefront of our minds. Unfortunately, we are now starting to see the full impact of the unintended problem of texting while driving. Technology should make life easier, not make life more dangerous or even cut life short, and at Iconosys we have responded with a technology-based solution that allows drivers to focus on what is most important – their driving – while still having their communication devices engaged and responsive. Distracted driving is an issue I am passionate about, and I am honored to have been invited by the FCC to attend the Distracted Driving Technology Showcase.”

In addition to his work with Text Kills and Iconosys, Irving also serves as CEO of Monster Offers™ (OTCQB: MONT), a leading Daily Deal analytics provider and aggregator, as well as a leader in mobile marketing advertising consulting. Monster Offers was recently named by Orange County Business Journal as one of Orange County’s “Top 100 Public Companies.”

The Distracted Driving Technology Showcase also follows a string of recent accolades for Irving, including being selected to speak at this year’s App Summit event May 21 at Las Vegas’ Sands Hotel on the subject of “Apps For A Global Good” and nominated for the CTIA B!G Idea Award in the category of “The Mobile Visionary.”

While this is his first collaboration with the FCC, Irving is no stranger to working with government agencies. He served in the United States Marine Corps for five years, from 1991 to 1996, during which period he was meritoriously promoted and decorated five times for outstanding service.
On behalf of himself, as well as Iconosys and Text Kills, Irving is honored to participate at this showcase event alongside a number of highly respected and prestigious companies and organizations, including AT&T, Sprint/Nextel, Verizon, the National Organization for Youth Safety (NOYS), Aegis Mobility, the National Safety Council (NSC), and the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA), among others. The Distracted Driving Technology Showcase will be held April 19, 2013 from 10 A.M. to 1 P.M. in the Commission Meeting Room at FCC Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
