Senator Menendez Applauds $185 Million To Lay Groundwork For Gateway Tunnel

U.S. Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ), Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee’s Subcommittee on Housing, Transportation, and Community Development, today applauded the announcement of $185 million being made available to preserve the right of way for the Amtrak Gateway Tunnel Project. When completed, the Gateway Tunnel will provide a critical commuter rail link between New Jersey and New York City.

“Hundreds of thousands of commuters need safe, reliable transportation across the Hudson River and our current transportation infrastructure is already running at full capacity,” said Sen. Menendez. “We desperately need to preserve this right of way for the Gateway Tunnel to meet our need for safe, reliable rail transportation across the river and for the entire Northeast Corridor. That is why I have fought for a trans-Hudson tunnel project for years and will continue to fight until full funding is secured and construction is completed.”
