Bergen County Overpeck Park High School Band Festival to be Held on May 19 at 7 p.m.


Hackensack, NJ -- The Bergen County Parks Department and the Division of Cultural and Historic Affairs will present the 4th annual Bergen County High School Concert Band Festival at the Overpeck Park amphitheater, 199 Challenger Road,  Ridgefield Park, on May 19 at 7 p.m.

The festival features four award-winning bands from three Bergen County schools, including: Bergenfield High School, Fort Lee High School and New Milford High School. 

Leading the evening, the 32-student New Milford High School Concert Band will be conducted by Heidi Kolb.  Performance will include an arrangement of Dvorak’s New World Symphony and the Soundtrack Highlights from the movie, Guardians of the Galaxy.

The Bergenfield High School Symphonic Winds with 95 student members and conductor Jeff Brown follows with selections including Symphonic Overture by Charles Carter and Shadow Rituals by Michael Markowski.

The third performance will be by the Fort Lee High School Wind Ensemble.  This 81- member organization with Harry Welte, conductor, will perform John Williams’ Fantasy of Flight and Selections from the Broadway musical “Wicked”.  

Concluding the festival, Bergenfield High School will present its 63-member Wind Ensemble with Brian Timmons at the baton.  They will play Carnival from La Fiesta Mexicana by H. Owen Reed and Percy Grainger’s Children’s March.

The festival is free to the public. Refreshments are available for purchase at the park concession stand.  Seating is on the lawn, so lawn chairs or blankets are recommended.  For more information on the event, contact the Division of Cultural & Historic Affairs at 201-336-7272.
