Valley Health System Welcomes New Director of Comprehensive Cancer Services

Ephraim Casper, M.D., Named Valley – Mount Sinai Director of Comprehensive Cancer Care

RIDGEWOOD, NJ, August 15, 2016 — Valley Health System is pleased to announce the appointment of Ephraim Casper, M.D., FACP, as the Valley – Mount Sinai Director of Comprehensive Cancer Care.

Dr. Casper’s appointment follows the announcement in June that Valley Health System has partnered with Mount Sinai Health System to offer state-of-the-art, comprehensive cancer care in northern New Jersey.  Dr. Casper will play a leading role in the further growth and development of Valley’s cancer services and the integration of these services with Mount Sinai Health System.

Casper, Ephraim, M.D.
Dr. Casper is a board-certified medical oncologist with expertise in treating patients with gastrointestinal tumors, including colorectal, pancreatic, biliary, gastric, and esophageal cancers.  He received his medical degree at Rush Medical College and completed a residency at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center, both of which are in Chicago, and completed a fellowship in medical oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.

Dr. Casper brings with him more than 30 years of experience at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Prior to joining Valley, Dr. Casper, a resident of Teaneck, served as the Head of the Medical Oncology Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering’s Basking Ridge outpatient facility, and head of the Division of Network Medicine Services. Most recently, as the Medical Director of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Regional Care Network, he was responsible for the integration and coordination of care at six suburban outpatient locations.

Dr. Casper will over see all cancer services provided by Valley Health System and the integration of these services with Mount Sinai.

“I was very pleased to be selected to oversee Valley’s cancer program, which has a longstanding reputation for providing high-quality leading edge care, “said Dr. Casper.  “And I am particularly excited by the opportunities to grow and enhance the program afforded by the oncology affiliation Mount Sinai.”
Through their oncology collaboration, Mount Sinai and Valley will work together to enhance patient care both at Valley’s Blumenthal Cancer Center in Paramus and the main campus in Ridgewood by:
•    Establishing new clinical programs and services;
•    Enhancing existing programs and services through access to and coordination with Mount Sinai’s nationally renowned cancer experts;
•    Expanding access to clinical trials;
•    Initiating research programs to advance education and medical science;
•    Establishing clinical information system linkages that will enhance quality, continuity, and evaluation of care; and
•    Collaborating in the development of a clinically integrated physician network for the delivery of high-quality, cost-efficient care.

New York City-based Mount Sinai comprises seven hospitals and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Valley Health System, headquartered in Ridgewood, New Jersey, includes The Valley Hospital, Valley Home Care, and Valley Medical Group.
