Founded by the two former Alvin Ailey members, Complexions’ groundbreaking mix of methods, styles, cultures has created an entirely new and exciting vision of human movement over the past decade-and-a-half. Hailed as two of the most gorgeous virtuosos ever to emerge from Ailey Land, (Tobi Tobias, New York Magazine), Dwight Rhoden and Desmond Richardson had a vision for sharing their common appreciation for diversity and multiculturalism through dance. Group and individual artistic and spiritual growth was the catalyst for this creative process. This wunderkind, this blossoming of an idea was born in 1994 and was appropriately called Complexions.
Complexions Contemporary Ballet celebrates excellence in dance. It provokes thought and inspires impassioned performance with the finest dancers in a full range of disciplines. Complexions performs for audiences worldwide, educate, cultivate talent, and champion diversity as America's original multi-cultural dance company. Whether it be the limiting traditions of a single style, period, venue, or culture, Complexions transcends them all, creating an open, continually evolving form of dance.
