(Englewood, New Jersey - September 12, 2016) The Center for Food Action (CFA) hosted its annual National Day of Service and Remembrance event on Sunday, September 11th at the Englewood Field Club.
This event was started four years ago by Elisabeth Morrow School parent Jen Maxfield Ostfeld, who also serves on the board of the Center for Food Action. Dozens of members of the Elisabeth Morrow community came out in support of CFA and assembled 4,000 snack packs for children at risk of weekend hunger in Bergen County.
Children who receive free or reduced-price school meals are often left without adequate nutrition on the weekends. The Weekend Snack Pack Program (WSPP), bridges this gap and is one of the many ways CFA is working to reduce local childhood hunger.
CFA hosted this event on Sunday, September 11th in recognition of what is now known as a National Day of Service and Remembrance. CFA works with supporters to build a stronger community by helping to assure that low-income children who attend elementary schools within the Englewood area have the proper nutrition to develop into productive and self-sufficient adults.
