BERKELEY COLLEGE CELEBRATES GROWTH OF DISTANCE LEARNING WITH KEY LEADERS IN NEW FACILITIES

On September 15, 2016, Berkeley College celebrated the growth of its distance learning program, cutting the ribbon on a 15,000-square-foot space that will house Berkeley College Online® offices in Paramus, NJ. The space accommodates administrative and support services that serve thousands of Berkeley College students.

Earlier in the day, the College hosted an online summit, bringing together leaders from national online learning associations including the United States Distance Learning Association, Quality Matters, the Online Learning Consortium, and WCET, a Cooperative for Educational Technologies and division of the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education, to discuss topics facing the industry and to develop ways in which they can work collaboratively while affecting positive change.

“The Summit focused on topics facing the distance learning industry,” said Sharon Goldstein, Campus Operating Officer, Berkeley College Online. “We worked collaboratively to develop strategies through which we will partner to influence ongoing innovations in distance learning,”

Berkeley College began offering online courses in 1998 and online degrees in 2003. More than 190 undergraduate and graduate courses were offered in the fall of 2015. This fall, currently more than 3,000 students are enrolled in at least one online course. To date nearly 2,500 students have graduated with online degrees.

“Part of what has always made Berkeley College special is the level of support we provide for our students, and we continue to do that in the virtual environment,” said Michael J. Smith, President of Berkeley College. “Wherever online will be in the future, Berkeley College will be there to deliver a quality education and help our students move forward into successful careers.”

The College received proclamations and letters of congratulations from U.S. Senator Cory Booker; the N.J. Senate and General Assembly; the Bergen County Executive and Board of Chosen Freeholders; and the Borough of Paramus.

Berkeley College Online students have access to the same support services as students who attend on site, including Academic Advisement, the Library, the Center for Academic Success, and Career Services.
