Valley National Bank to Recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month by Hosting 8th Annual Breast Cancer Walk on October 1stOver the past seven years, Valley has raised over $700,000 in support of breast cancer research
WAYNE, N.J. – Thursday, September 22, 2016 – Valley National Bank announced that it will be hosting its 8th annual breast cancer walk titled "Valley Goes Pink!" on Saturday, October 1st (Rain date: Sunday, October 2nd) 9:00 AM, at 1460 Valley Road in Wayne, New Jersey.
Valley Goes Pink! is an inspirational and impactful opportunity to raise money and awareness for the Cure Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF). All of the proceeds raised are used for research and conferences at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and other national and international research facilities under the direction of Dr. Larry Norton, M.D, who serves as the Foundation’s Scientific Advisor. Over the past seven years, Valley has raised over $700,000. This year’s event will feature prize drawings, a 50/50 raffle and free food and beverages. Dr. Norton as well as New York’s most popular television weather expert, four-time Emmy Award winner and an Edward R. Murrow Award winner, Mr. "G." will also be on hand to support the event.
The generous support from CBCF allows Dr. Norton’s research group to make further progress in their mission to decipher breast cancer biology and produce clinically relevant results. The CBCF has facilitated creative studies, leading Dr. Norton’s group toward the development of novel approaches to cancer prognostication, therapy, and ultimately prevention.
At a recent think tank conference in Haifa, Israel sponsored by CBCF, international breast cancer researchers from the United States, Israel, and Europe concluded that the current breast cancer screening model for the BRCA mutations focusing on family history isn’t working. For a variety of reasons this likely misses some individuals who carry such mutations, denying these people the opportunity to undertake prevention strategies. “Knowing that one has a dangerous mutation could well be life-saving since one can do things to minimize one’s risk,” said Dr. Norton who was the organizer and chair for this very important meeting.

The Cure Breast Cancer Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation whose mission it is to raise funds to support research to find a cure for breast cancer. CBCF provides critical funding for innovative research under the leadership of Dr. Norton, a leading breast cancer oncologist and researcher.
