FORT LEE, NJ (September 2016) – Chef Sherry Yard an accomplished chef who has spent her extensive career making a mark on the culinary world and who currently serves as SVP of Culinary Brand Development for iPic Entertainment, will officially add to New Jersey’s dynamic list of must-dine restaurants with her critically acclaimed City Perch Kitchen + Bar, officially opening adjacent to iPic Theaters Fort Lee this September.
Yard’s menu will feature unique, playful dishes that enhance the flavors of the ingredients, with an emphasis on ingredients sourced from nearby farms and waters. With plans to serve weekend brunch, dinner and late night with a limited “Night Owls” menu, in addition to a Bar Bites menu, City Perch will indulge guests’ taste buds and expand their palates inside its intimately rustic, farm to table restaurant. A lively and expansive bar offers a diverse menu of flavors complemented by a sophisticated beverage program designed by nationally lauded Master Bartender/Advanced Sommelier Adam Seger, specializing in garden-to-glass craft mixology, local beers and boutique wines. A boutique wine list features over one hundred selections along with local favorites.
Located at the new Hudson Lights, an affluent mixed-use project at the crossroads of New Jersey and New York, City Perch will share a core menu with sister restaurant City Perch Bethesda, while offering a plethora of dishes that play homage to New Jersey locals.
Inside, design elements play off eclectic, mismatched woods, warm colors and pastoral touches, creating a cozy, warm and inviting space peppered with patinated metals, aged leather and distressed woods. Through floor-to-ceiling glass accordion doors, City Perch opens up to a solid walnut tree trunk bar wrapped in distressed studded steel. A sprawling brick wall dons a vestige mural of the George Washington Bridge, paying tribute to the famous passage. Throughout, green tufted couches, yellow-mustard half-moon booths and large comfortable sectionals, provide ample seating while whitewashed wood ceilings and obscured glass windows paint a friendly farm feel, with a welcoming, rustic industrial aesthetic. The kitchen is open and inviting, adding to the allure of the dining space and the transparency and integrity of the quality menu. The City Perch experience begins with Yard’s, critically acclaimed, handcrafted signature breadbasket, an unsuspecting standout so memorable it prompted The Washington Post to describe it as the “best bread service in Washington.”
Post bread, City Perch offers staple Bethesda items such as the Perch Burger with red onion marmalade, bacon, bibb lettuce, tomato, cheddar, French fries + baby greens salad; Herb Roasted Chicken with charred cauliflower, arugula emulsion and spiced citrus vinaigrette; Pan Seared Scallops with roasted Brussels sprouts, Cipollini onions, bacon lardons, thyme and veal jus; Gulf Shrimp & Grits with roasted mushrooms, Anson Mills grits, and bacon vinaigrette; and Braised Beef Short Ribs served with creamed spinach, crispy shallots and a potato pancake.
As for new items, a section dedicated to a New Jersey favorite, pizza, makes an original debut. Pies with a Sherry Yard touch include “from the oven” options like Grilled Farmers Market Vegetable + Smoked Mozzarella; Burrata Margherita with tomato, mozzarella and basil; Mushroom + Three Cheeses with fontina béchamel, and Salami + Arugula with genoa salami, ricotta salata and pepperoncini. City Perch’s menu will change with the seasons, and specials will reflect the best of the market.
Of course, no meal at City Perch is complete without Yard’s handmade and heart-warming desserts, including the Black n Blue Pot Pie, made with farmers market black & blueberries, flaky puff pastry, and blackberry crumble swirl ice cream; Deep Dark Chocolate Chocolate Donut with pistachio ice cream, dark chocolate sauce and pistachio tuile; and Raspberry Red Velvet Pavlova with crispy vanilla meringue.
And then there are the cocktails. Adam Seger’s nod to “the film town” extends to an entire portion of the drink menu dubbed “Hollywood on the Palisades,” bursting with classic libations and historical bits about the birthplace of the motion picture industry. Additional cocktail highlights include a “Garden State Garden to Glass” section and fun takes on signatures like the Fire & Ice Old Fashioned made with curated spirits, woodfire evaporated Philips Farm Grade B New Jersey Maple Syrup, hand-cut Clinebell ice and bitters; and the Ay Chihuahua with Camarena Reposado tequila, passion fruit and homemade ginger beer.
City Perch Kitchen + Bar is located at Hudson Lights, 2023 Hudson Street, Fort Lee, NJ 07024. City Perch will be open for dinner daily and late night service with a limited “Night Owls” menu along with brunch on the weekends.
