The Community Chest to Honor the Engels, ConnectOne Bank, and The Rotary Club of Englewood

at Annual Gala Celebrating 85th Anniversary

(Eastern Bergen County, New Jersey; April 6, 2018)--The Community Chest will recognize two philanthropists and two organizations for their charitable activities in the community-- Richard Engel and Swati-Rao Engel, ConnectOne Bank, and The Rotary Club of Englewood -- at its annual spring gala.  The Chest holds its gala, Celebrating 85 Years of Service to the Community, on April 18 at 6:30 p.m. at Montammy Golf Club at 7 Montammy Drive in Alpine, New Jersey.

Community Involvement

These 2018 honorees were selected for their community involvement and efforts to help The Chest achieve its motto, Neighbors Helping Neighbors.

            • Philanthropist Award.  Richard Engel and Swati-Rao Engel.  Formerly a member of The Chest's board of managers and chair of the development committee, Richard Engel worked to move the organization closer to its strategic plan's fundraising goals.  Currently, he is a member of The Chest's new President's Council and continues to help the organization achieve its goals.

Swati-Rao Engel is involved in charitable work through giving and direct action such as tutoring projects for children with limited academic resources.  As a Marketing Director at Time Inc., she participated in several successful community service programs with outreach to local communities in need.  With The Chest, she shares her marketing expertise to help the organization implement its strategic plan.

            • Champion Award-ConnectOne Bank.  This financial institution collaborates and works with many organizations throughout the community and makes an impact.  The ConnectOne Bank Community Connections Team Building Event created benches, planter boxes, craft artwork and blankets and presented them to The Chest to donate to non-profits that could use them.

            • Public Spirit Award-The Rotary Club of Englewood.  Since 1923, Englewood Rotary has championed important local and international charitable projects.  These projects included building one of the earliest Little League fields in the area, supporting youth development, providing lifesaving heart surgery for children in high poverty areas, and supporting The Chest's professional development series.

Meeting Community Needs
