NEW BRIDGE MEDICAL CENTER TO PARTICIPATE IN 2nd ANNUAL BERGEN COUNTY CARE FAIR

Second Annual Event to Be Held Sunday, May 6, 2018 at Fairleigh Dickinson University Rothman Center

Hackensack, N.J. – A 45-member Steering Committee of Bergen County community leaders from the nonprofit and private sectors have announced the launch of the Second Annual Bergen County Care Fair to take place on Sunday, May 6, 2018 from 12 to 4 pm at the Fairleigh Dickinson University Rothman Center, 100 University Plaza Drive, Hackensack, NJ.

The county’s newest hospital which opened in October, 2017, New Bridge Medical Center will be participating in this year’s event as an Exhibitor and leadership Sponsor. A clinical affiliate of Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences, New Bridge Medical Center is part of New Bridge Health, a health care system uniting services across the continuum of care. Care Plus Bergen, Inc. is the not-for-profit operator of New Bridge Medical Center.  It is an innovative alliance between three world-class partners – Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, Integrity House, and Care Plus NJ Inc., and it manages the day to day operations of New Bridge Medical Center, strengthening the hospital’s core services of behavioral health, addiction treatment, long-term care, and acute care, while ensuring greater access to primary care for all Bergen County residents. New Bridge is the largest hospital in New Jersey,  a Veterans Choice Provider proudly serving the healthcare needs of our veterans,  and a safety net facility providing a complete continuum of high quality care to the communities it serves. The facility is located at 230 East Ridgewood Avenue in Paramus, NJ.

“New Bridge Medical Center plays a critical role in health care delivery for patients and families in Bergen County and across New Jersey. This is why we are thrilled and honored to sponsor and participate in the Second Annual Bergen County Care Fair,” said New Bridge Medical Center President and CEO, Deborah Visconi. “The Care Fair provides a terrific venue for many of the County’s robust health and wellness resources to gather in one location for the benefit, education, and support of our community. It is a great way for County residents to get to know all that New Bridge offers.”

“Within six months after a diagnosis of a chronic and debilitating illness, I was on dosages of OxyContin, Valium, and Xanax typically reserved for those on hospice care.  My addiction grew and I lost my job, and most of my friends. In early 2009, I made one last ditch effort to fix my life.  I entered detox at the facility now known as New Bridge Medical Center. From detox I went to the rehab unit at the hospital.  The men and women there are amazing.  Of particular note, Nurse Donna and Counselor Cynthia stand out in my memory as having a major effect on me.  Something about their caring nature motivated me to push through the physical pain and hold on for one more day. I also voluntarily attended the Evergreen outpatient program at the Medical Center.  This proved to be a crucial part of my early sobriety as it was a place of security and safety. I also decided to pursue my love of cooking as a career. In late 2016, I received a phone call from Food Network's Chopped. It had long been a dream of mine to be on this show.  Ironically Chopped originally aired during the final months of my active addiction.  I didn't feel any pressure to win as just being on the show itself was amazing, but I did win and it was truly symbolic of my life coming full circle.  From a hopeless junky wishing he could trade places with a chef contestant on the show to now being on the show was truly a surreal experience. I have a life I love.  Thank you New Bridge Medical Center.” Chef C.

The Bergen County Care Fair was developed in 2017 by County Executive James J. Tedesco and the Board of Chosen Freeholders in response to the ever-increasing complexity of the health, wellness, and support care systems and related public frustration in the face of trying to find the right medical care providers, treatments, and support services needed to deal with a health crisis or chronic physical or mental health issues.  The theme of the Fair is “Find the Connection You Need!”
