Stew Leonard’s in New Jersey Digs

Branching into New Jersey is in the future for Stew Leonard. In addition to his chain of supermarkets in Connecticut and Long Island, Stew Leonard has decided to venture into New Jersey. Picking the shopping plum of the state, Paramus, he elected to start a new store at the recently vacated Sears store in the Paramus Park Mall. Keeping control in the family, his nephew, Jake, will assume managerial control.

To celebrate the event, Mr. Leonard invited many NJ dignitaries to a groundbreaking ceremony and feted them with champagne flutes filled with milk. In keeping with his homestyle approach, there was a small pen with baby cows under control of handlers. They were allowed to mingle with the attendees.

Present to congratulate him were: US Senator Bob Menendez, NJ senator Joe Lagana, County Executive Jim Tedesco and Mayor Rich LaBarbiera among many others. Each gave a short welcome address.
