New Jersey-Based Non-Profit to Recognize the Huisking Family for Their Devotion to Fighting Alzheimer’s and Other Dementias
Roseland, NJ (April 1, 2019) – Alzheimer’s New Jersey, the independent, New Jersey non-profit providing continuous hope and support for individuals and families battling Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, is proud to announce the celebration of its annual gala, taking place at The Grove in Cedar Grove, New Jersey on April 10. With the theme of “Celebrating New Jersey - We Take Care of Our Own,” pulling inspiration from Bruce Springsteen’s iconic song title, the proceeds from this event will directly benefit the 600,000 New Jersey individuals and families impacted by Alzheimer’s and other dementias. Tickets for the event include dinner, entertainment and a silent auction, offering a truly elegant experience.
Alzheimer’s New Jersey is also proud to announce the Huisking Family, namely Laura Marie Huisking and her father, William “Skip” Huisking, as the 2019 gala honorees to thank them for their dedication to the organization and its mission.
After living through her grandfather’s battle with Alzheimer’s disease and losing her mother to cancer, Laura Huisking has devoted much of her time to building awareness for Alzheimer’s New Jersey programs dedicated to caregiver education, support and respite throughout the state. Recognized by The National Council of Dementia Practitioners, and now honored by Alzheimer’s New Jersey, Laura’s dedication has proven invaluable to those fighting their own battles with Alzheimer’s disease. In 2018, Laura became Chair of the Northern Regional Walk to Fight Alzheimer’s, and when not volunteering, she works as Marketing & Community Relations Manager for Home Helpers of Bergen County.
Laura’s father, William “Skip” Huisking, a former professor at Bergen Community College, was instrumental in securing the college as a new location for the Northern Regional Walk. He also served on the walk planning committee and has been a member of walk teams ever since. Together with the Huisking Family Foundation, which was started in 1946 by Charles and Catherine Huisking, the family has generously supported the Northern Regional Walk to Fight Alzheimer’s for the past four years.
“We are honored to recognize the Huisking family for their hard work and dedication to Alzheimer’s New Jersey at our 2019 gala,” said Ken Zaentz, President and CEO of Alzheimer’s New Jersey. “Through countless hours of community-oriented service, Laura, Skip and their entire family have made New Jersey a better place for those battling Alzheimer’s and other dementias. We look forward to celebrating them alongside our various donors, supporters and volunteers at the event this April.”
