DURING CORONAVIRUS COVID-19 CRISIS
The Berkeley College School of Health Studies is responding to community needs during the coronavirus COVID-19 crisis by donating vital supplies to a local medical facility.
On Friday, March 20, 2020, the College dropped off personal protective equipment including surgical gowns, masks and gloves, as well as disinfecting wipes to the Hackensack Surgery Center in Hackensack, NJ, which continues to serve patience facing surgical emergencies. Approximately 20 students in the Berkeley College Surgical Technology program have completed clinical rotations at the facility over the past 10 years.
“Berkeley College students complete their clinical rotations here, so we are happy we could help out when we received the request for personal protective equipment,” said Joseph Charleman, CST, CSFA, CRCST, LPN, Chair, Surgical Technology and Surgical Processing Technician programs, Berkeley College School of Health Studies.
“These supplies are needed to ensure the safety of both the patient and the healthcare professional,” said Demetrios Econopouly, DPM, Chief of Podiatric Service and Residency Director, Hackensack Meridian Health Palisades Medical Center, who also operates at the Hackensack Surgery Center. “They will help us on the front lines as we respond to this crisis, and we are grateful.”
The supplies had been available for use by students preparing for careers in the Surgical Technology, Surgical Processing Technician, Medical Assistant, Practical Nurse and other programs offered through the Berkeley College School of Health Studies.
Faculty members and administrators in the Berkeley College School of Health Studies also have responded to the request for medical personnel to volunteer as screeners for the Passaic County COVID-19 initiative taking place in Wayne, NJ.
