Award-winning ebook and audiobook app encourages students to read anytime, anywhere
WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J. – May 5, 2020 – In this mobile age, technology has become increasingly valuable in supporting new generations of lifelong learners and readers. Now, Woodcliff Lake School District is using technology to expand access to digital reading materials by connecting their students with the school’s broad collection of ebooks and audiobooks through the Sora app.
The combination of convenience, ease of reading on-the-go, and personalized reading experience of both teacher-assigned and student-selected digital books inspires student learning anytime, anywhere.
"The Woodcliff Lake School district is excited to launch Sora,” said Lauren Barbelet, Superintendent at Woodcliff Lake School District. “This learning tool will allow students to gain immediate access to books from any device. Technology is an important part of our students' daily lives and now digital books are too. With the help of the Woodcliff Lake Educational Foundation, our students are ready to read, listen and research through Sora."
Through Sora, Woodcliff Lake School District students have convenient and safe access to hundreds of age-appropriate ebooks and audiobooks from the school’s collection. These reading materials are available for use inside the classroom, at home and anywhere 24/7. Data from thousands of schools using Sora shows students of all ages read more, improve comprehension and learn critical listening through audiobooks.
Woodcliff Lake School District Media Specialist Laurence Gander added, “The students are especially excited as Woodcliff Lake has the unique situation of not having a public library. Now, students can check out the specially curated books which were chosen based on their requests. A win-win for the students and the virtual library!”
Inspired by educator and student feedback, Sora offers both assigned and pleasure reading incentivized with fun avatars and achievements within the app to encourage a focus on learning. Sora also supports teachers by offering classroom-specific tools like personal assignments, reading analytics and exportable notes that individualize learning.
