On Saturday, April 24, 2021 at approximately 7:57 pm, Paramus Police Officer Gil Maynard, Officer Diego Cruz, and security officers of Westfield Garden State Plaza were made aware of a person with a handgun within the Westfield Garden State Plaza Shopping Center. The officers located a group of juveniles that matched the description of the suspects. While interviewing the suspect the officers located a fully loaded SCCY Firearms CPX-2 handgun located in the front fanny pack being worn by the 17 year old male. The handgun was fully loaded at the time of the arrest. The arrest was made without incident.
The suspect was placed under arrest and was transported to Paramus Police Headquarters. His parents were notified to respond to the Paramus Police Headquarters. He was then remanded to the Bergen County Juvenile Detention Facility in Teterboro to await a detention hearing. The defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
