Update: 99% of PSE&G Customers Restored November 4, 2011, 3:00 p.m.

We are close to full restoration, but PSE&G does not minimize the frustration of those customers who remain without power.  99 percent of the 571,000 customers impacted by last weekend's storm have been safely restored.  PSE&G is making steady progress in restoring less than 6,000 customers who are still without power.  Most customers who remain without power are likely to be those where single service lines from our poles to customers' homes and businesses have been damaged.

PSE&G met the state's expectation that at least 95 percent of its customers would be restored by yesterday (Thursday).

Counties most affected at this time are Bergen and Essex.  We are focusing our restoration efforts and outreach on the communities that remain with significant outages.  We continue efforts on tree removal and restoration in coordination with local public works personnel.  Customers should also be aware that the downed wires may belong to varied telephone and cable companies.  We are coordinating with these companies to facilitate removal and repair of utility lines.

Please be aware that customers who have been restored may experience temporary interruptions as we make permanent repairs.  PSE&G continues to use every available resource to make repairs and restore electricity as quickly and safely as possible.  In addition to its own crews, the utility continues to receive assistance from mutual aid crews from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Mississippi, and Washington D.C.

Since the storm hit last Saturday (October 29), PSE&G's Customer Call Center has taken more than 800,000 storm-related calls from customers - almost 8 times the normal weekly volume.  To ensure that we are aware of customers who remain without power, despite restoration to an area, customers are encouraged to call 1-800-436-PSEG (7734) to be certain that we have the report of no service.

Thank you for your continued patience as we continue to make progress toward full restoration.
