BCC’s Center for Peace, Justice & Reconciliation Hosts Forum on Preventing Gun and Gang Violence, November 17, 2011


Members of the Bergen County Gang Task Force and the Hip Hop community will discuss the importance of gun and gang awareness at Bergen Community College. The College’s Center for Peace, Justice and Reconciliation will host the event, “A Dialogue with Pioneers of Hip Hop and Law Enforcement About Gun and Gang Violence,” on Thursday, November 17, 2011 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Bergen Community College’s main campus in Paramus. The event is free and open to the public.

Milam, Albano, Caputo, Wagner & Ramos Praise Voter Support For Legal Sports Betting In New Jersey Casinos & Racetracks



Assembly members Matthew W. Milam, Nelson Albano, Ralph R. Caputo, Connie Wagner and Ruben J. Ramos, Jr. Tuesday thanked voters for green-lighting a constitutional amendment that will allow the Legislature, when permitted by federal law, to legalize sports betting in New Jersey. Currently, federal law only permits this type of betting in Nevada, Delaware, Oregon and Montana. The constitutional amendment (ACR-167) approved by voters yesterday positions New Jersey to implement sports gaming at Atlantic City casinos and horse racing tracks in the state, if and when the federal law is overturned.

KosherFest 2011 Is Larger Than Ever Before At Meadowlands Expo Center


Kosher Fest 2011-
Just the parking spaces alone showed the vast number of visitors to the 2011 Kosherfest at the Meadowlands Convention Center. Inside, the huge amount of displays and the crowds attested to the popularity of this kosher festival. Attendees were seen up and down the aisles sampling the many food and beverage wares. The assortment consisted of appetizers, baked goods, liquid drinks, candy, deli offerings and snack foods. Kosher professionals who attended were given the chance to sample gluten free products, cookies, chocolates, hotdogs, pastrami, corned beef, cheeses, breads and cakes among others.

Waving his fists In the air, LaBarbiera happily roared that the pendulum had swung; the people of Paramus had seen fit to put the two Democrat candidates on the 2012 Council. They defeated incumbents Cathy Bentz and Maureen O’Brien winning in almost every district. Assemblywoman Connie Wagner joined them in their celebration before heading down to Wood-Ridge to learn her election results.

Menendez Keeps Up the Fight to Fund Community Policing Efforts


After House zeroes funding for cops, Senator calls on Senate, House members resolving final spending bill to fund COPS and Byrne Grants at highest level possible
U.S. Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) continued his fight to ensure funding for community policing efforts, this week calling on House and Senate members finalizing the Justice Department’s spending bill to include at least $200 million for the popular Community Oriented Policing Services Hiring (COPS) Program.  Earlier this year, Republican leaders in the House of Representatives zeroed out the program in their version of the spending bill; the Senate last week approved a bill which included $200 million for the competitive grant program.  Because of differences in the bills, a conference committee has been appointed to craft a final measure.
