Phil Thalheimer experienced the thrilling rush, and hubris, of entrepreneurial success, then the crushing blow of financial ruin - all before the age of 23.

At 16, Thalheimer and a buddy had all but cornered the market on lawn-mowing jobs in his suburban Philadelphia neighborhood. They had 200 lawns and a crew of kids working for them and were clearing close to $250 each week. Big money for a couple of minors in the mid-1970s.

Board of Health to Conduct Lead Screening for Preschoolers


The Paramus Board of Health has announced that it will offer a low cost screening for blood lead for preschool children in Paramus on Wednesday, May 2nd . The test uses a simple fingerstick, and will be held at Borough Hall on Carlough Drive. 

Paramus Health Officer John Hopper urges the parents of all toddlers, one to six years old, to participate in this screening. “The United States Environmental Protection Agency has estimated that fifteen percent of the children in this country under the age of six have elevated levels of lead in their blood.

At its February 22nd meeting, Mother Seton Council #5427 of the Knights of Columbus, located in Washington Township, made a donation of $1,000 to Suzanne Cohen, Executive Director of DebRA of America. 

DebRA of America is dedicated to finding treatments and a cure for Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), which is a genetic disorder.
