State Senator Joe Coniglio, Assemblywoman Joan Voss and Assemblyman Bob Gordon were at the Mayor and Council meeting to present Mayor Tedesco with a check for $74,871.00. This money was designated for Emergency Management and the 9-1-1 program. It was quite timely since the recent lightning storm had damaged some of the 9-1-1 equipment at Police Headquarters. Sen. Coniglio promised more to come!

August Film Discussion at the Paramus Public Library


“Last Orders” by Graham Swift is the subject of film discussion this summer at the Paramus Public Library. On Friday, August 18th at 12:30pm, library patrons are invited to view “Last Orders”, a subtle yet piercing story about the ways friendship and love are shaped by the past and by fate. Centering on a group of World War II friends, their work, family, the racetrack and favorite pub, this feature film stars Michael Caine, Bob Hoskins, and Helen Mirren.

Travel to Thailand in Paramus Library Film Series


The “In the Spotlight” film series at the Paramus Public Library highlights
a new travel film each month. August’s destination is “Thailand: The Golden Kingdom.” The film will be shown at the main library, 116 E. Century Road in Paramus on Monday, August 21st at 12:30pm. This program is free of charge, open to the public and requires no advance registration. Light refreshments will be served.

Joseph Cipolla Paramus Senior Center has a picnic, rain or shine


Senior Picnic
Amidst a cloud of smoke and shielded by a screened in area, I heard hellos coming my way as I arrived at the Senior Center. When the corner was rounded, there were Pat O’Brien and Ralph Amato cooking hamburgers on the outdoor grill. Just then Sam Casiello came through the light rain with a tray and accompanied by Jenna, his granddaughter. Since the picnic tables were empty, it was easy to discern that the people were inside.

Paramus Cultural Arts Council Bulletin


Due to inclement weather predictions, the Paramus Community Orchestra production scheduled for tonight, July 21, 2006 will be moved.  Rain Date is Wednesday, July 26 at 8:00 pm at the Bandshell.

Total Soul is scheduled for Tuesday evening at the Westfield Garden State Plaza Bandshell. If the weather predicts rain, it will be held at the IBEW Hall on Robin Road.

Kimberly-Ann Yacuk-Hay (C), of Paramus, was recently presented the Business, Mathematics and Social Sciences Divisional Award for Business Administration – Paralegal Studies at the Bergen Community College Academic Awards Ceremony by President Judith K. Winn (R) and Academic Vice President Gary F. Porter (L). To be eligible for a Divisional Award, a candidate must graduate with an overall Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.0, a GPA of at least 3.5 in the area of concentration, and be recommended by the faculty.

Valerie Coniglio, in the face of storm weather predictions, moved the scheduled event to the IBEW Hall on Robin Road. She and her crew set up 575 chairs in the air-conditioned hall and about 25 went unfilled, a wise decision. Playing Tuesday evening were Kenny Vance and the Planotones, a delightful ensemble playing Doo Wop music from the 1950’s and early 60’s.
