700,000 people will have a new or recurrent stroke each year and New Jersey ranks third in the number of strokes among residents. Often caused by uncontrolled high blood pressure, stroke is a medical emergency.
For most people, high blood pressure has no noticeable symptoms, but can cause the heart muscle to stretch and thicken. Over time hypertension may cause the heart to stop pumping effectively. Organs such as the kidneys and brain are then deprived of oxygen and proper nutrients.

APRIL 20 & 21: SIXTH ANNUAL CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY CAREER DAY TO BE HELD AT B


 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 164 will be one of more than 30 exhibitors at the Sixth Annual Construction Industry Career Day, which is attended by high school-aged students as well as men and women considering a career in the building or construction trades. The event will be held at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, N.J., on Friday and Saturday, April 20 and 21, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday has been specially planned for freshman students only. Saturday is open to high schools, community groups and the general public.

Registration is underway for a variety of weekly spring programs at the Paramus Public Library held from early April through late May 2007. Senior Center activities – April


The monthly bus trip to Atlantic City Taj Mahal will be on April 23rd. In May there will be a price change. Seats are available, as of this date, for Top of the Rock (April 9th) and The Drowsy Chaperone (April 25th). Computer classes will resume on April 16th and 20th. Dedication of the Computer Room will be on Sunday, April 22nd at 2:00 PM with refreshments available. This Friday, Good Friday, the center will be closed.

Bergen Community College’s Theatre Production Workshop will present four student-produced, one-act plays in the Ender Hall Laboratory Theatre on the campus at 400 Paramus Road, Paramus, NJ, on Friday, May 4 and Saturday, May 5 at 7:30 p.m., and on Sunday, May 6 at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are $5 and may be purchased in advance in Room A-315 at the College or at the box office one hour before curtain on the days of the performances.
