Bergen Begins 50th Year


Students returned to Bergen Community College’s main campus in Paramus Sept. 1.

PARAMUS, N.J. – Bergen Community College will celebrate its 50th anniversary during the 2017-18 academic year, commemorating the 1967 hiring of the institution’s first president, Sidney Silverman, Ph.D., and the approval of the master plan that developed the College’s main campus at 400 Paramus Road. Bergen’s first 1,454 students arrived the following year in Sept. 1968; the newest students arrived Sept. 1.

Headed to Flooded Louisiana & Miami-Dade to Rescue Animals Before Hurricane Irma Hits
(Englewood, NJ – September 6, 2017) –Pet ResQ’s Robyn Urman has already rescued dozens of dogs from flooded Texas in the past two weeks, and now Hurricane Irma is about to hit Florida. Pet ResQ will be heading down to Miami-Dade to rescue as many animals as they can before the shelter euthanizes them due to the Hurricane.  They will also be heading to Louisiana as well to bring back dogs.

BERKELEY COLLEGE ATHLETICS NAMES IGNACIO ALONSO CO-HEAD COACH OF CROSS-COUNTRY PROGRAMS


The Berkeley College Department of Athletics recently announced the appointment of Ignacio Alonso as Co-Head Coach of the Men’s and Women’s Cross-Country programs. Coach Alonso will share leadership responsibilities with Michael Lincoln, Co-Head Coach and Director of Graduate Admissions at Berkeley College.

“It is an honor to be named as the Co-Head Coach of the Cross-Country teams at Berkeley College,” Coach Alonso said. “I look forward to leading our student-athletes to success on and off the course.”

Bergen County Provides Security Training to UN Personnel


(Mahwah)- Today, the Bergen County Law and Public Safety Institute welcomed its first class of United Nations (UN) senior diplomatic personnel for training in “Safe and Secure Approaches in Field Environment” (SSAFE) protocol. After years of providing training to the UN security forces who also serve as firefighters at the UN headquarters in New York, the County of Bergen entered an agreement earlier this summer with the UN to provide this academic and practical training to hundreds of UN employees in the coming months.
